Season On OIJ Agents
A routine investigation by judicial agents
turned into another shootout between police
and the suspects, this time the incident
occurring in the Ciudadela 25 de Julio in
Hatillo, on the south side of San José.
During the shootout with the anti-socials,
on Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ)
was hit, while other agents ran for cover
and areas residents began to flee in all
direction, while others took shelter in
their homes.
The sirens and police radios began blaring
when the judicial agents called for backup.
Flashbacks of the last couple of weeks came
to the minds of many, where two OIJ agents
have been gunned down by criminals opening
fire on police during a chase.
Yesterday, one OIJ agent, Kenneth Monge
Quirós, resulted in serious injury from a
bullet in the stomach, who fell in the arms
of his fellow agents.
Monge was, under cover of his fellow agents,
immediately taken to hospital where he was
transferred to speeding accident that was on
route to the scene.
The attack on the agents of the sección de
Capturas was unexpected. The agents said
that they intercepted a white Nissan
Pathfinder with four men inside, when they
noticed something suspicious of the
situation. However, the men, it appearsm
became annoyed at the intrusion by the
officials and opened fire on them.
Injured in the gunfire was also one of the
suspects, Cristopher Badilla Morera, who is
alleged to have shot Monge. During the
shootout, the men fled the scene but three
of them were chased down by the OIJ agents
and detained, while the injured man took
refuge in one of the homes, later
apprehended by police.
subdirector del OIJ, Francisco Segura, says
that "these type of people" have no respect
for anyone, they kill indiscriminately
without regard to human life.
All four suspects in yesterday's incident
had long criminal records, according to
Segura, who categorized them as young men
who are bord to commit criminal acts.
"I can't explain why they are on the streets
given their criminal history, they are
people who are always armed and have no
regard for anyone or anything", said Segura.
Witnesses say that one of the apprehended
was smiling as he was being detained,
assuring that he would be free on the
streets by today.
Last week, OIJ agents were caught up in
another shootout with a group of Jamaicans,
when agent Rándall Mauricio López Garita,
was shot in killed. The Jamaicans used high
calibre fire power, as one of the bullets
from an AK47 penetrated López's bullet proof
vest. That incident occured in San Antonio
de Belén on November 3.
And, two weeks earlier still, on October 20, OIJ agent,
Ronny Sojo Chacón, fell victim of another
shootout, this time in Mata Redonda (La
Sabana) in San José
