San José - Santa Ana Highway Completely Closed At Multiplaza

The autopista Próspero Fernández near Multiplaza Escazú will be completely closed between 8am today and 10am Sunday to allow work crews to continue critical work on the Agres river bridge reconstruction. The reconstruction of the bridge has been going on for the better part of the year as part of the widening of the autopista to six lanes.

The bridge, west of Multiplaza and east of Office Depot has been a constant problem for traffic in the area.

Guillermo Matamoros, viceministro de Concesiones del MOPT, added that the work to be carried out today requires a complete closure of the highway, in both directions, a vibrations of the traffic on the bridge could interfere with the construction of the bridge.

Traffic from San José to Santa Ana can take take the old road to Santa Ana through Escazú or exit at the Texaco station, cross under the bridge to Multiplaza and then back onto the autopista at the Multiplaza or Guachipelin intersections.

Traffic from Santa Ana to San José can detour through Multiplaza to Office Depot and back onto the autopista by the CIMA hospital.

The Policia de Tránsito will on site to direct traffic and ensure that the road closure is respected.

No word, however, if the Autopistas de Sol will eliminate the toll charges during the road closure. We think not.
