Keens Beans Brings Costa Rica Coffee to
Pensacola
If you're from Pensacola and happen to own a
coffee farm in Costa Rica, why not start
roasting and selling coffee in your
hometown?
That's how Keens Beans began. Rhonda Keen
and Eric Yoder sold their first crop of
beans to Spain, and now Keens Beans are
available at several local stores, including
at the Port City Market at Palafox and Main
streets, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
"The crowning feature of our beans is that
they are single-estate and are not mixed
with other growers' beans, allowing us to
control the quality," Keen said.
Keens Beans is available in 1-pound and
12-ounce bags in three roasts: American
Medium, Full City and Vienna Dark.
"There's no decaf, because it takes
chemicals to decaf coffee and that goes
against our efforts," Keen said. "We
suspended the use of all chemicals on the
land and built a new environ-mentally
conscious coffee processing and drying
facility."
