Tropical Development Possible Near Costa
Rica Means Lots Of Rain For The Coming Days
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center
are keeping an eye on a tropical system in
the southwestern Caribbean Sea. The low
pressure area is hanging around in the
vicinity of Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua
and Honduras.
Shower activity associated with the system
has become better organized and, according
to the Hurricane Center, "upper level winds
are favorable for some continued
development."
The system, while nearly stationary at the
moment, has a medium chance - 30 to 50 per
cent - of turning into something more potent
within the next 48 hours.
Some computer models show the system quickly
moving inland over Central America, which
would mean heavy rainfall for the area but
no further development.
Other models show the system slowly moving
into the Caribbean, which, coupled with a
relaxed wind shear, could mean the
conditions are more favorable for
development into something stronger,
Locally heavy rains are possible in the
vicinity over the next few days.
