Billion Colones In Aguinaldo To Boost
Economy in December
Next month it is expected that some ˘462
billion colones will float the economy with
the payment of the "aguinaldo" to some
421.000 salaries employees, according to a
projection by the Encuesta de Hogares.
The aguinaldo, for simplicity, is equal to
the average of one month's salary earned
between December 1, 2008 and November 30,
2009 and payable between December 1 and
20th.
All public and private sector salaried
employees are eligible to receive the
aguinaldo and it is the responsibility of
all employers to pay and on time the
aguinaldo to every salaried employee that
has been working for a month or more.
Employers who fail to pay or do not pay on
time, face a fine.
Public sector employees will be getting the
highest average payment, calculated at
˘526.000 colones per person.
The Ministro de Trabajo, Álvaro González,
said that it won't be until November 17th
when his ministry will offer an exact
calculation of the aguinaldo that will be
paid by the government to each salaried
employee.
A salaried employee also includes those
employees who are working under contract,
for a specific work to be performed or on an
hourly basis. |
