UNA’s Guanacaste
Campus and Appalachian State University Sign
Agreement
UNA’s
Guanacaste Campus and Appalachian State
University Sign Agreement
(InfoWebPress) — The Chorotega Regional
Campus of the National University (UNA) has
entered into a cooperation agreement with
Appalachian State University, North
Carolina, for academic and scientific
exchange projects for five years.
The memorandum of understanding recently
signed by both institutions of higher
learning seeks to establish a framework that
would allow academic and scientific
cooperation to take place between them. The
memorandum is subject to changes at any time
by mutual agreement.
Some of the things this agreement would
allow include faculty and student exchanges
during one semester, as permitted by the
funds allocated to the program.
Additionally, Appalachian State University
has committed to finance research projects
in Costa Rica. The exchange program will
initially benefit two undergraduate students
majoring in tourism and one student majoring
in English education.
The program also calls for improvement the
curriculum of the two majors mentioned
above, invitations to congresses and
training opportunities, communication
processes, exchange of publications,
participation in field tours, and sharing of
best professional practices.
According to the understanding between the
two universities, any changes made to the
agreement during its five-year period would
not affect those students of professors who
are at the moment engaged in professional
improvement activities, coursework or
research projects.
The memorandum of understanding was signed
by Orlando de la O Castañeda, dean of UNA’s
Chorotega campus, and Stanley R. Aeschleman,
executive vice chancellor of Appalachian
State University.
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of
