Another Costa Rican At NASA

Costa Rican born, Sandra Alba Cauffman, an industrial engineering major from the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) and NASA's Deputy Project Manager for the GOES-R (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) Program, since 2002 has been promoted to Project Manager.

GOES is a $3 billion satellite program that provides the basic data needed for weather forecasting. It provides satellite images of clouds and severe storms, measures atmospheric temperatures, and monitors space weather from its vantage point 22,300 miles above the earth.

Cauffman holds a B.S in Physics, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from George Mason University in the United States.

Before starting her NASA career, Cauffman worked for Engineering and Economics Research (EER) as a Senior Staff Engineer.

Sandra said she made up her mind at the age of seven that she wanted to work with NASA.
