Confirms Second AH1N1 Flu Virus Death
The Ministerio de Salud late Monday night
confirmed the second death due to the AH1N1
flu virus, saying that the death was of a 35
year old woman who had been admitted to the
emergency room last week suffering from
severe pneumonia.
The ministra de Salud, María Luisa Ávila,
said that the woman also suffered from
hypertension and obesity.
The ministra said that woman, who was
between 50% and 70% over her recommended
weight, was admitted to hospital in critical
condition and had no history of having been
in contact with others infected with the flu
virus.
The ministra would not reveal the name of
the woman, nor where she resided or the
hospital she was admitted to.
The first victim of the AH1N1 flu virus in
Costa Rica was a 53 year old man who died on
May 9. The man had been admitted to the
Calderón Guardia hospital, also suffering
from pneumonia, as well as diabetes.
To date all the cases of AH1N1 in Costa Rica
have been light, according to ministra Ávila
and the majority of those infected have been
under the age of 30.
Costa Rica now counts with 210 confirmed
cases of AH1N1.
There still are 45 cases waiting
confirmation and 178 suspected.
