Racial Equality Forum
Brasilia - The second National Conference on the
Promotion of Racial Equality continues its debates
Friday on different issues of concern for the
various ethnic groups in Brazilian society.
The 1,300 delegates, elected at the municipal,
regional, and state conferences, as well as at the
National Plenary Session of Traditional Communities,
will be discussing land titles, policies for
indigenous and gypsy populations, African religions,
and the fight against institutional racism.
During the event's inauguration last night, the
minister of the Special Secretariat for Policies on
the Promotion of Racial Equality, Edson Santos,
Affirmed that the official polices on this issue are
a crucial element in Brazil's development process.
Meanwhile, activist Done Kika de Bessen highlighted
the Brazilian government's efforts in the definition
of public polices and the creation of juridical,
legislative, and budgetary instruments to reduce
ethnic-racial differences.
However, she noted, the transformations are not
perceived yet in the economic organization and the
composition of powers. |
