Juanes in Blitz Visit to Havana
Havana - Colombian singer Juanes departed today for
his country after a brief less-than-24-hour visit to
Cuba.
During his stay he toured the historical center and
talked to citizens who recognized him immediately.
In a first approach to the Cuban public, he valued
the possibility of giving a sole concert in a Havana
public square, on a still to be set date, revealed
to Prensa Latina reliable sources who wanted to keep
anonymity.
Staying at the Hotel Nacional, he was attended by
officials of the Cuban Institute of Music, he talked
with Singer-author Silvio Rodriguez and visited the
Miramar neighborhood.
Juanes is very popular in the island since his debut
as soloist in 2000 with his álbum Fijate Bien (Pay
Attention) which opened to him the doors of
international markets.
In 2008, Juanes won five Latin Grammys with his CD
La Vida es un Ratico (Life is but a Little While).
Together with his artistic career, he stands out as
a social activist with the Fundacion Mi Sangre which
boosts programs for the rehabilitation of
antipersonal mines.
According to sources, in his tour of the old city,
he became interested in the restoration work carried
out by the Historian's Office. |
