Colombian Troops Kill 8 FARC Rebels

Bogota - Colombian government troops killed eight guerillas Monday in separate clashes with the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the northwest and south of the country, the national army said.

The battles took place in the morning in Argelia of Antioquia province and La Montanita of Caqueta province, according to a report issued by the army.

Four rebels were killed in a mountain area in Argelia. Three rifles, one revolver and some other military equipment were seized during the combat.

The other four rebels were killed in a forest area in La Montanita.

FARC is the largest anti-government armed group in Colombia. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has listed the elimination of the rebel group as his top priority.
