Cases Confirmed in
Guatemala, Total Reaches 25
Guatemala - Guatemalan
sanitary authorities confirmed on Friday two
new cases of the A/H1N1 virus, bringing the
total to 25 in the country.
According to information reaching here from
Guatemala City, Guatemalan Health Minister
Celso Cerezo said on Friday that the new
cases are two male patients. A boy of nine
years old from Sacatepequez department and a
23-year-old-patient from Escuintla
department.
Guatemala reported its first case of the
H1N1 flu on May 5, which was a girl who had
visited the Mexican state of Veracruz.
Guatemalan authorities said that despite the
number of confirmed cases it is not to
worry, they will meet next week with the
Council of Minister to reinforce the measure
to avoid the spread of the virus.
The Guatemalan government kept the orange
alert.
Meanwhile, Guatemalan Education Ministry has
advanced the school break as an additional
preventive measure. At least eight school in
Escuintal and Chimaltenango departments as
well as in Guatemala City have suspended
activities.
Of the 25 confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in
the country, 14 were minors.
Guatemalan Health Ministry has advised
people not to conduct nonessential travel.
