Cuba Leads Pan-Am Boxing Tournament

leads the Pan-American Boxing Tournament
being held in Mexico, with a score of 15
points, followed by the host country with 10
points, Brazil (eight) and Puerto Rico
(six).
At the end of the first day of semifinals,
five Cuban boxers had qualified for the
finals, scheduled for next Sunday in the
state of Mexico.
Only Daniel Matellon lost to Puerto Rico's
Enmanuel Rodriguez (10-11) in the 48-kg
division.
Yampier Hernández (51 kg) defeated
Colombia's Oscar Negrete (7-2), and Roniel
Iglesias (64 kg) beat Brazil's Mike Michel
(10-7).
Idel Torriente (69 kg) defeated Brazil's
Esquiva Falcao (7-4), and Olympic medalist
Osmay Acosta (91 kg) beat Colombia's Deivis
Julio (15-5).
Delegation head Eloy Oliveros told Prensa
Latina that three Cuban boxers would fight
tomorrow.
Emilio Correa (75 kg) will fight against
Puerto Rico's Hector Cervantes, José Larduet
(81 kg) will fight Canada's Steve Franjic,
and Erislandi Savón (+91 kg) will compete
against Tariq Abdulaqq, from Trinidad and
Tobago.
