Journalist Death Threat Stirs Chile
Santiago de Chile - Several humanitarian
organizations requested protection of journalist
Francisco Herreros, director of the weekly El Siglo,
who was threatened with death by the so-called
September 11 Avengers Commando.
On that day in 1973 Chilean armed forces perpetrated
a bloody military coup against the government of
President Salvador Allende.
Lawyer Pedro Aravena will present a request of the
Santiago Appellate Court guarantor of defenders of
human rights, families of detained-disappeared,
political executions and former political prisoners
and other social and political organizations.
The Chilean Communist Party owned El Siglo called on
Chileans of several sectors to join in
"demonstrations to protest ultra rightwing terrorism
and new attacks against the freedom of expression."
Recently El Siglo began publishing a series of
declassified CIA documents that involve Chilean
right wing organizations and persons in crimes,
fraud and other violations it seems that lead to the
death threat against Herreros. |
