CRISIS IN HONDURAS
President Zelaya Message to Hondurans
Tegucigalpa - Honduran constitutional President Manuel Zelaya sent a message of encouragement to
his followers in Honduras and urged them to
continue their resistance to the military
coup until his return to the country this
weekend.
Zelaya's words were transmitted by a
popular Honduran leader during the
demonstrations repudiating the coup now
keeping itself for a fifth consecutive day
in Tegucigalpa, the capital.
Zelaya spoke on the phone with members of
the coordination office of the Popular
Resistance Front and the announcement was
followed by applause by the central
organizations for workers, students,
farmers, youth, women and others.
Another announcement was sent to the
resistance movement by First Lady Xiomara
Castro, who denounced she was forced to go
to the mountains, protected by inhabitants
in the rural zones of Honduras.
The leader said that Zelaya confirmed he
will return to Honduras once the 72-hour
time limit given by the Organization of
American States for the coupists to leave
has expired.
