Escazú Tolls
Going Up ˘10 Today!
It's been less than a month since the Escazú
tolls began and already the Autopistas del
Soll will be increasing the amount by ˘10
colones.
On June 9, the Escazú tolls on the San Jose
- Caldera highway opened and drivers of
passenger vehicles and motorcycles had to
hand over ˘310 colones, each way. More for
buses and commercial vehicles.
Beginning today (July 1), the toll will be
˘320 colones, each way.
Buses, will be paying ˘640 (from ˘630),
heavy trucks (2 and 3 axles) ˘800 (from
˘790) and trucks with five axles will pau
˘2.010 (from ˘1.990).
The Orotina tolls will stay the same at ˘480
for passenger vehicles and motorcycles,
however, buses and trucks will have to hand
over an additional ˘10 colones (˘960 from
˘950) and 5 axle vehicles an additional ˘40
colones (˘3.050 from ˘3.010).
The Autopistas del Sol said that the
increase is legal and can do so every three
months under the concession contract it has
with the government.
Guillermo Matamoros, viceministro de
Concesiones, said that the concessionaire
should wait a "plazo prudential"
(reasonable) before upping the tolls, but
did not say if the government will take any
actions to stop the increase.
