Cuba, Russia Sign Strategic
Association Memorandum
Moscow - Russia's President Dmitri Medvedev and Cuba's Raul
Castro signed on Friday at the Kremlin a memorandum about the
Strategic Collaboration Principles between both countries.
Medvedev said the visit by the Cuban president was an important
milestone in the bilateral relations.
"Congratulations to our friends for the 50th anniversary of the
Revolution," he said, and expressed his best wishes to Commander
Fidel Castro.
I am convinced that we are in the position to achieve strategic
relations, the statesman said.
We will continue working in all directions and I think the prospects
are really good, he stated.
We have signed 34 documents, he said, and highlighted that Cuba and
Russia have a great development potential, which will allow us
making progress to increase trade.
He asserted that the task now is to boost materialization of the
agreements.
In Thursday's talks with the Cuban president we reviewed bilateral
collaboration, and we met again today privately, said Medvedev.
This visit opens a new chapter in the Russian-Cuban friendly
relations. We are sure that we will reach a strategic-relation
level, he said.
The Cuban president asserted that he shared Medvedev's statements.
It is a historic landmark in an important time in bilateral
relations, he said.
We are old friends; we have maintained our friendship in bad and
good times, he stated.
With the 9th session of the Inter-Government Collaboration
Commission, we have moved forward, said Raul Castro, and highlighted
that it is Cuba's job to take the relevant steps for a strategic
association.
These results reflect perfectly what we have achieved and what we
aspire to achieve from now on, the Cuban president concluded.
Besides the memorandum, the Inter.-Government Collaboration
Commission Final Minute was signed on Friday at the Kremlin, by
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin and Cuban Minister Council
