Central America, Not Yet
a Priority for Obama
San Salvador - Central
America is not yet a
matter of priority in
the agenda of US
President-elect Barack
Obama, as it happened in
the agenda of George W.
Bush, analysts
interviewed by the
Salvadorian paper La
Prensa Grafica
expressed.
Obama and his team are
not yet focused on
Central America’s
issues. They are now
taking care of other
priorities concerning
foreign policy. When
they do tackle Central
America’s problems,
concerns on security in
the region will be top
priority, Vice President
of policy matters of the
Interamerican Dialogue
Michael Shifter
expressed on Monday.
The members of the
coming administration
are barely analyzing
some information
elaborated by
nonofficial envoys to
countries like Guatemala
and El Salvador,
information that will
make possible to make a
regional file on the
migratory reform, drug
trafficking increase and
other matters.
According to a former US
diplomat, not identified
by the paper, Obama’s
team is worried about
the existence of
criminals in the area,
similar to Los Perrones,
in El Salvador.
