La Guacima An
Alternative To Zapote
Although tens of
thousands flock to
Zapote and endure the
long lines at the
attractions and sold out
events of the bull
fights, the La Guácima
event is an alternative.
Held in La Guacima de
Alajuela, a short
distance west of the San
Jose international
airport, the annual fair
that is being run for
the third consecutive
year, offers visitors
attractions and
entertainment without
the lines.
The La Guacima event
began in 2006 when the
Zapote event was
cancelled. The turn out
that year great, say
organizers, who have
seen a drop in
attendance last year and
this year.
The event runs the same
dates as Zapote -
kicking off on December
25 and running until the
first Sunday in January
- does not have the
bulls tonight, however,
is offering one of Costa
Rica's hotties - Maribel
Guardia - with what
organizers are calling a
spectacular show.
Maribel takes to the
stage at 6pm and tickets
are only ˘5.000 and
˘10.000 colones.
Entrance to the La
