Epsy Campbell Ready To Become Next PAC Presidential Candidate
The leader and founder of the Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC), runner up in the 2006 presidential elections and main opponent to the now in effect free trade agreement with the United States, Ottón Solís, may have competition for the party presidential nomination.

The challenge may come from none other than Epsy Campbell, who has made a name for herself in the party and in the country's politics.

Solís founded the PAC in 2000 and has run, unsuccessfully, for two presidential elections without a challenge for the party leadership nomination.

Solís said that he was not aware of the Campbell challenge, that he has not been or needs to be consulted if she decides to challenge the party leadership.

Campbell has not confirmed that she will challenge Solís for the leadership to run in the 2010 presidential elections, where she could possibly face Laura Chinchilla, of the Partido Liberacion Nacional (PLN) if she is nominated by her party.

"Let's see what happens in the coming weeks and months", said Solís, who is also denying confirming seeking the party nomination for 2010.

Not wanting to discuss the matter, Solís did say, however, that Epsy would be an excellent candidate.

The PAC is one of three main political parties in Costa Rica. Before the 2006 elections it was known as the third party, behind the PLN and the Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) who have alternated in running the country.

In 2006, the PAC made a strong show and came second. Solís and the PAC lost the 2006 election to the Oscar Arias and the PLN by a small margin.

The PAC is holding is national assembly on February 7.
