Lost Chrysler Contract Affects
Costa Rica Plant
German car parts maker Continental may have to take a us$91.2
million writedown on a plant in Costa Rica after the loss of a
business deal, a company source said on Thursday.
The production site was built to supply Chrysler with engine
and transmission controls, but the struggling U.S. carmaker canceled
the contract, the source said.
"We do not expect at the moment that an extraordinary writedown is
necessary," a spokeswoman for Continental said.
The car parts maker will examine whether other products can be
manufactured there to utilize the existing capacity, she said.
