Ecuador, Colombia To Try Overcome Impasse
QUITO- The bilateral Commission on Sensitive
Affairs, key to re-establish diplomatic
relations between Ecuador and Colombia, will
meet in the first quarter of 2010,
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Fander Falconi
informed.
The diplomatic impasse since March 2008 is
expected to be overcome after that meeting.
The resumption of relations with Colombia
will depend on the work done in that
meeting, and "Ecuador hopes a compensation
of the points it has considered sensitive,"
he added.
One of those aspects deals with the
Ecuadorian request for the Colombian
government to hand in detailed information
of the military, police attack in the border
locality of Angostura.
Ecuador hopes to establish solid basis to
re-establish mutual confidence and guarantee
respect for sovereignty, through the process
started last September in New York with its
Colombian side.
Falconi avoid mentioning a specific date for
the naming of ambassadors from the two
countries, and insisted it will depend on
