Guatemala Unit for Solar Energy Generation
GUATEMALA - A unit known as National
Coordinating Cell of the Euro Solar Program
(CNC) was created in Guatemala, according to
governmental decree published Monday.

made known the document through which the
Energy and Mine Ministry created that group
to encourage solar energy generation, mainly
in the rural area.
That decree stresses the importance of
electrifying the country, as stated in the
Constitution, with plans by the State and
involving the private sector.
Among other objectives, that institution
intends to boost the use of new, renewable
sources of energy, as well as their rational
use, and to attain energy self-sufficiency
in the country.
The program will be sponsored by the
Ministries of Education and Public Health
and Social Security, thus allowing rural
populations to access solar energy for
community use, the text reads.
The recently created CNC, to take into
effect Tuesday, will have a fund of more
than 436,000 Euros paid out by the European
Union (EU) from its Euro Solar program,
which will help increasing energy generated
from clean sources.
The EU project also includes El Salvador,
Nicaragua, Honduras, Paraguay, Ecuador, and
Bolivia, Prensa Libre daily notes.
