Venezuela Requests Extradition of Fugitive
Banker
CARACAS - Venezuela's Public Ministry
confirmed on Friday that the process to
request the extradition of fugitive banker
Eligio Cedeño to the US government has
started, who escaped to Miami, Florida.
Prosecutors in charge of the case made the
request to 31st Court of Caracas.
According to a report, the ex president of
Bolivar and Canarias private banks, both
intervened for multiple violations, is
facing here crimes of embezzlement of the
savers' funds, smuggling and currency fraud
obtaining.
Cedeño escaped from Venezuela after a judge
changed his prison sentence for a ban on
travel outside the country as a preventive
measure, during a hearing called irregular
by different powers of the State.
The banker was arrested in the United
States, where he was released later.
Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said that
Washington must show its respect to
Interpol's cooperation mechanisms with the
handover of Cedeño, who is circulated by
Interpol.
Madur's demand responds to rumours on a
possible request of political asylum by the
fugitive banker. |
