Desamparados CarnivalToday
The Carnaval de Desamparados is on today
with a noon time start. The carnaval on the
south side of San José replaces the
traditional carnaval that had been held in
the downtown core for years, but for reasons
not really understood, has been cancelled
for the third year in a row.
The Municipalidad de Desamparados and the
Asociación Cívica Desamparadeña have been
working for months to prepare the big party
which will include floats, dancers, marching
bands and clowns.
The roads into the centre of Desamparados
will be closed at least until 8pm, with
somne 85 Tránsitos (traffic) officials on
hand to ensure order and 650 officers of the
Fuerza Pública (police).
