Colombian Government Urged to Facilitate
Release
BOGOTA - Voz daily Editor Carlo Lozano urged
the Government on Wednesday not to thwart
the unilateral released of two uniformed men
in the hands of the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the wake of the
killing of a departmental official.
In an article published on the on-line
edition of this daily of the Communist Party
of Colombia, Lozano repudiates the
kidnapping and killing of Governor of
southern Caqueta department Luis Cuellar,
attributed by President Alvaro Uribe to a
FARC guerrilla commando.
In Lozano's opinion, such actions contribute
to worsen the conflict and reinforce
militarism and the war policy raised by the
government.
He added that ongoing releases cannot be
stopped because of these events, "which are
a result of escalating conflict in Colombia
due to the lack of government peace
policies."
Lozano noted that these situations of
violence will exist in the country as long
as there is internal conflict, which is the
reason to understand that the only way to
solve it is through negotiations.
We cannot accept that Uribe uses such
despicable acts to exacerbate war feelings
and encourage military rescue of people held
by FARC, showing his disdain for these
people's lives, he said, while insisting
that guarantees must be offered for the
announced releases, humanitarian exchange
and a negotiated way out of internal
conflict. |
