Slight Increase of Tourism in Guatemala
GUATEMALA - The arrival of tourists to
Guatemala had a recovery in November to
accumulate growth in the first 11 months of
the year but collection acted differently,
points a report on Wednesday.
The increase was of two percent with respect
to the same period in 2008, when 1,59
million travelers arrived to the country,
only 31 419 more, according to data
published by Guatemalan Institute of Tourism
(INGUAT).
November was a very important month
regarding that result because 165 759
foreigners were counted and that was 26 451
people more than in November 2008 and
constituted a year-on-year rise of 19
percent.
INGUAT expects a three percent increase in
that area, which is still under the 4, 3
percent reached in 2008, when 2009 ends.
Other sources as the Chamber of Tourism of
Guatemala indicate a higher occupational
level in the hotels of the capital to the
end of the period and that is, above all,
due to a greater influx of businesspeople
but there was no recovery in the hotels of
the interior.
The sector was affected by two main
situations: the effect of swine flu A(H1N1)
and the prevailing lack of security. |
