President-Elect Says Zelaya Should Be
Allowed To Leave Brazilian Embassy
TEGUCIGALPA - Honduran President-elect
Porfirio Lobo Sosa said Thursday that ousted
President Manuel Zelaya should be allowed to
leave the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa,
where he has stayed since Sept. 21.
"Why he has to be in the embassy of Brazil.
I think that is not right," Lobo said,
adding that he has been negotiating for
Zelaya to be allowed to leave" the embassy.
However, Zelaya and the de facto foreign
ministry have yet to reach an agreement.
"They should reach an agreement, former
President Zelaya should accept and the
national authorities should allow him to
leave the embassy," Lobo said.
Lobo said he talked by phone with Zelaya
last week, when the deposed president was
trying to leave the country for Mexico but
his request was rejected by the de facto
government because he refused to sign a
document saying he was no longer president.
Lobo, elected on Nov. 29, met with visiting
Salvadorian President Antonio Saca on
Thursday.
