Chile Invests in High Performance Sports

SANTIAGO DE CHILE  - Chilean President Michelle Bachelet announced today the approval of 6 million dollars to finance a wide development program for elite athletes.

Chile hopes to be a world class country in sports and we've been moving forward to fulfill that objective, she said.

"Bicentennial Program" comprises training, competitive games and will provide athletes with sports equipment.

According to Bachelet this program aims to guarantee Chilean best athletes participation in international competitions.

"We want the elite athletes to devote themselves exclusively to their training and not to waste time looking for their sports equipment and how to support themselves", she said.

She also confirmed about an important investment for the extension and modernization of the Department of High Performance Sports (CAR).

"We are going to renew technological equipments necessary to a suitable technical analysis for training. There'll be new sports equipments and the infrastructure of sports facilities are going to be better too", she said.
