La
Nación Picks For "Personajes del 2009"
The La Nación today published its pick for "Personajes
del 2009" (list of personalities for 2009).
Heading the list is Dr. María Luisa Ávila,
ministra de Salud, leading the strategy for
dealing with the AH1N1 pandemic and Franking
Chang, former NASA astrounat and currently
developing in Costa Rica a plasma engine to
be used in space travel.
Others making the list, though the La Nación
does not say if the order is of importance
or just random, are Leonardo Garnier, Public
Education minister; Maureen Ballestero, the
legislator in the centre of the controversy
for use of Fuerza Pública airplanes for
private use; Karla González, former MOPT
minister, who resigned following continued
problems with the country's bridges; George
Miley, responsible for overseeing Costa
Rica's opening of the telecommunications
market; and the Fábrica El Ángel that was
devastated in the January 8 earthquake, but
was able to rebuilt and bring like back to
the Cinchona area community.
Also making the list is Pedro Pablo Quirós,
president of ICE, though were not sure if it
is for promising no blackouts this year, or
bringing us the 3G or for using every legal
and political tactic imaginable to keep
competition out of Costa Rica's
telecommunications market, especially when
it comes to the highly profitable cellular
services market.
Others on the list include Walter Reiche,
Caja-Fishel case; Jorge Rojas, director of
the OIJ; and, Francisco Dall'Anese, Fiscal
General.
Absent from the list is former Costa Rican
president, Rafael Angel Calderón; 2010
presidential candidate, Laura Chinchilla;
president Oscar Arias; and the hundreds of
Chinese workers who are building the us$70
million dollar plus new national stadium
that will be donated to the Costa Rican
people.
