Reconstruction in El Salvador: 343 Million
Dollars
SAN SALVADOR - The reconstruction of El
Salvador will cost 343 million dollars, to
rebuild and reduce the risk in zones
affected by recent rains as reported by the
United Nations Economic Commission for Latin
America and the Caribbean.
The rains registered on November 7 and 8
provoked landslides and floods in five
Salvadorian departments with a remnant of
199 dead people, 76 disappeared and 125,000
affected.
The regional ECLAC advisor, Ricardo Zapata,
said the economic losses caused reach 239
million dollars. The impact of future events
might be reduced if investments are made in
the reduction of the national and social
vulnerability.
Salvadorian Presidency technical secretary
Alexander Segovia said the governmentâ�Ös
disposal to foster an integral strategy for
development to reduce the risk of future
disasters.
As part of the plan, 1,500 houses will be
built in safe places for the affected
people.
The intense rains and landslides were
provoked by a low pressure zone in the
Pacific Ocean, associated to Tropical Storm
Ida. |
