Another Blow To Traffickers Of Cocaine
Drug traffickers this year alone have lost
more than 90 tons of cocaine to Costa Rican
judicial officials, the latest haul was of
840 kilograms hidden in large pieces of
marble destined for shipment to Mexico and
North America as a final destination.
The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ)
raided on Thursday a warehouse located in
Pozos de Santa Ana, arresting four Mexican
nationals, a Colombian and two Costa Ricans
as suspects of the drug ring.
OIJ director Jorge Rojas said the raid also
included a home in Heredia, following an
investigation over the last several months.
Rojas said the Mexicans first entered Costa
Rica in April and rented an apartment and
warehouse where they stored the shipment of
marble that came from Egypt.
The drugs are believed to have come from
Colombia and hidden in blocks of marble as
this product for shipment to Mexico, a
marble shipments are not that tightly
inspected.
Rojas added that his officials are
investigating the source of the drugs and
did not indicate which of the drug cartel(s)
was involved in the trafficking ring.
The five suspects apprehended face up to 20
years each in a Costa Rican jail. |
