Road
to Caldera and Costanera Sur To be Completed
Ahead of Schedule
Guillermo Matamoros, viceministro de
Concesiones for the MOPT, the new road to
Caldera and the last 40 kilometres of the
Costanera Sur, said on Friday that the two
roads should be ready earlier than expected,
in the first months of 2010, as the projects
are about 90% complete.
According to Hadda Muñoz, manager of the new
road to Caldera, said that only 3.6
kilometres or the 77 kilometres are left
unfinished in the San José - Caldera
highway, and if the work continues at the
same pace, the road should be ready ahead of
anticipation.
Both Muños and Matamoros assure that the new
road will be operation by March 2010 and not
July 2010 as had been scheduled. The only
roadblock that could prevent the early
opening is complications in environmental
issues that have plagued the road building
between Santa Ana and Orotina.
As to the Costanera Sur, Carlos Acosta,
engineer for the project said that the road
is 95% complete and that only 4 kilometres
of the 42 have to be asphalted.
Acosta said that the setback on the last
four kilometres was a problem with
expropriations, but that has been resolved
and the work can no be completed.
Once completed, the Costanera Sur will
connect the Pacific port town of Quepos with
Dominical.
