Venezuela Nixes Recognition of Honduras
Polls
CARACAS - The Venezuelan government ratified
today it ignores the results of elections in
Honduras and condemned those who recognize
them, a small group of governments,
specially the United States.
Of "particularly embarrassing" Venezuela
rated US position whose government is termed
as "chief architect" of the coup dâ�ÖEtat of
June 28 in Honduras.
In this regard an official communiqué
indicates that the US recognition of the
electoral frauds of the Honduran
dictatorship came even before the de facto
regimen gave out the results.
The note describes the process as an
electoral farce organized by the Honduran
dictatorship on Nov 29 and denounced the
unconstitutionality of a day marked by the
police and military violence against the
people of Honduras.
He notes that the vast majority of Hondurans
refused to validate the fraud and decided
not to participate and thousands of poor
voters were driven by force to the polls.
Venezuela says the recognition of these
elections is a serious offence against
democracy on the continent, and a break of
the practice of living within the pluralism
that the States of the region observed
during recent years
It is unusual he adds that Latin American
governments validate the dictatorship when
on Nov 5 in Jamaica; the Rio Group called
the return of President Manuel Zelaya an
essential requirement for the restoration of
constitutional order.
That statement also qualifies the return of
Zelaya as a requirement for the recognition
of the results of the elections on Nov 29.
The government of Barack Obama is now openly
in line with that tradition of violent
relationships with our continent like in the
opprobrious days of Richard Nixon and Ronald
Reagan among others, Venezuelan authorities
warned.
Venezuela also says it will continue
creating actions to isolate the dictatorship
in Honduras and the restoration of democracy
along the Honduran people and decent
governments in the region and the world. |
