ATM's And Banks Saturated on First Day of
Aguinaldo
Lines ups at the automated teller machines
(ATM's) and banks on Tuesday were the
highest for the year, as a combination of
pay day and the first payments of the
Aguinaldo meant an increase in traffic at
financial institutions.
For example, the line up most of the Banco
de Costa Rica (BCR) branches in the downtown
core was up to 2 hours or more. Line ups at
the ATM machines around the downtown area
was ten deep in many cases.
The worst is the Banco Nacional (BN) central
branch ATM's (around the corner from the
post office) where a score of ATM machines
were spewing out cash all day long.
The general manager of the Banco de Costa
Rica, Mario Rivera, said that ATM use during
December goes up at least 20% over normal
periods.
The aguinaldo (for simplicity sake it equals
to one month salary) is paid to all salaried
employees and employers have until December
20 to pay up before facing sanctions. |
