Cuba: Final Touches for New School
Year
Havana - Cubans
are giving the final touches for the
beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, when
about three million students are expected to
attend classes on September 1.
Nearly 400,000 teachers and professors in
over 13,000 educational centers will join
the staffs in those schools, but that number
is not enough for a successful academic
course, as educational authorities expect.
The work during this weekend to leave
schools ready to begin the upcoming school
year includes cleaning educational
institutions and fitting out those centers
with school materials, including
audio-visual aids, which are used to support
the country's teaching process.
According to educational sources, this
school year will be marked by some cahnges
at the teaching levels, as part of an
improvement process started shortly after
the triumph of the Revolution in January,
1959.
Taking admission exams on Mathematics,
Spanish Language and History of Cuba to
enter higher education, as well as more
class schedules for the country's university
teacher training centers are among those
changes.
