Dominican Republic For More Pressure on
Putschists

Fernandez proposed on Wednesday to intensify
the pressure on the de facto regime in
Honduras by suspending its membership of the
Central America Free Trade Agreement with
the United States and the Dominican Republic
(CAFTA-DR).
Speaking before a group of Central American
legislators, Fernandez said this measure
might force the de Honduran facto regime to
withdraw.
His proposal comes in the wake of a failed
mission by members of the Organization of
American States, who travelled to
Tegucigalpa to facilitate the return of
President Manuel Zelaya.
Fernandez, who gave his Foreign Minister
Carlos Morales a last hour order to abandon
the mission, participated actively in the
meetings of the Group of Rio and other
regional bodies to coordinate a common stand
against the Honduran coup.
He also informed on the Honduran situation
during the Non Aligned Summit of Sharm el
Sheikh, Egypt, which issued a resolution
backing the restoration of legality in the
Central American country. |
