Eleven Guerrillas
Captured in
Colombia
Bogota - Colombian police
have captured 11 guerrillas of the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC),
a senior police official said on Monday.
"The guerrillas are members of Front 40 of
the FARC," said General Gilberto Ramirez,
director of the police, adding that one of
them is the nephew of Henry Castellanos
Garzon, alias "Romana," a member of general
staff of the FARC.
Two of the captures, Jose Alfredo Garcia
Gutierrez and Hector Hernan Sanchez Gomez,
and the nephew of "Romana" are middle-level
commanders of the FARC.
According to the police, the 11 guerrillas
took part in the terrorist attacks in the
municipality La Uribe in Meta department on
Aug. 4, 1998, and in the municipalities
Puerto Lleras and Puerto Rico on July 10,
1999, when 29 police officers were
kidnapped.
They were also accused of participating in
the terrorist attack in the municipality La
Julia in 2006, which resulted in the death
of 15 militaries.
FARC is the largest guerrilla group in
Colombia that has fought against the
government for years. Colombian President
Alvaro Uribehas put the elimination of
guerrillas as his priority.
