Micheletti Says He Doesn't Care Whether Next
Government Is Recognized Or Not
Tegucigalpa - Interim Honduran
President Roberto Micheletti has said that
he does not care whether the elections in
November are recognized by the Bolivarian
Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) or not.
"Commercial relations are more important
than diplomatic ones and Honduras'
commercial trade with ALBA countries is not
much, so whether they recognize the
elections or not is not an issue very
important to us", Micheletti said.
He considered the Caribbean and Central
American countries, especially Guatemala and
El Salvador, as alternative markets for
Honduras.
"I do not think we are going to be enemy
forever, especially those countries in Latin
America, we have had good relationship with
all of them and tried to live in harmony",
Micheletti said, adding that he believes
everything would return to normal after the
elections.
Micheletti's government, which took power
after a June 28 military coup whisked
President Manuel Zelaya out of the country,
has not won recognition of most American
countries. Many countries in the region have
expressed their staunch support to Zelaya
and demanded a reinstatement of the exiled
Zelaya.
