Ecuador Establishes Ethic Committee to Regulate News Media

Quito - The Ecuadorian government will establish an ethic committee to regulate the country's news media, a government official said on Tuesday.

Secretary General of Communications Fernando Alvarado said it is necessary to create the committee to regulate the news media because "some media have taken a political position."

Alvarado also proposed creating a news agency that does not represent the government or private interests in order to report with maximum objectivity.

Alvarado's comments came one day after Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa announced the cancellation of the licenses of some radio and TV stations due to what he called irregularities.
