Venezuelan Condemn Military Bases in
Colombia
Caracas - Social
groups of Venezuelan state, Tachira,
condemned the installation of US bases in
the neighboring country while military
sources warned of the penetration of
paramilitary forces from that nation.
Nelliver Lugo, coordinator of the United
Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) in the
region announced a demonstration to protest
the bases that, he said, "intend to halt the
development of progressive movements in the
region."
Yesterday, during the commemoration of the
72nd anniversary of the National Guard,
Division General Luis Maradey accused the
government of that state bordering with
Colombia of "supporting the paramilitaries
and seeking resources of drug trade.
Maradey assured that the position of
governor Cesar Perez Vives, opposition of
the government of President Hugo Chavez that
his institution will continue his service
against those who break the law, drug
traders or other delinquents.
The top ranking official charged that the
paramilitary have support of the regional
authorities to attack social benefits and
programs of attention to poorer sectors of
the population set in motion by the Chavez
government.
According to versions of the regional press,
general Maradey affirmed in the state
capital, San Antonio de Tachira, that these
resources are profits of drug trade and
extortion employed by the paramilitary in
that nations. |
