Murder of Judge Alerts Guatemalan

Guatemala - After the assassination of a judge in this
capital called on the Guatemalan authorities
to take seriously threats reported by
magistrates.
The Prosecution of Crimes against Justice
Dispensers affirmed having received
communications from January to July of 85
cases of threats and also aggression against
judges and prosecutors who participate in
investigations of the so called cases of
high impact.
However, the attack this Monday against the
64 year old professional and head of the
12th court of work and social prevention,
Flor de Maria Aquino, did not appear in this
list.
Those in charge of these investigations
confessed ignorance of the causes of the
attack on Aquino, since she never reported
threats of death or intimidations.
The judge was shot down when waiting in her
car for a change of traffic light,
perpetrated by two alleged hit men who,
according to witnesses, were on motorcycle,
a modality very common in this country. |
