Bolivia Morales Criticizes Church

Oruro, Bolivia - Bolivian President Evo Morales criticized on Monday some Catholic Church leaders who support military dictatorships.

" I would like to express my disagreement with some Catholic Church bishops who support or take part in military dictatorships and in Bolivia defend the landowners, " said Morales in a visit to Quillacas (Oruro).

After being blessed in the Quillacas Sanctuary, over 248 miles from La Paz, Morales said that defending the landowners, supporting dictatorships or taking part in a coup is not praying or working for justice and equality.

In July, Morales condemned the stand taken by an archbishop in Tegucigalpa, who justified the coup led by Roberto Micheletti against constitutional President of Honduras Manuel Zelaya.

He also criticized Bolivian Cardinal Julio Terrazas, who failed to assume a stand of condemnation of those responsible for the coup staged by prefects in Santa Cruz, Beni, Pando and Tarija in July and August of 2008.
