Three Ministers To Resign Today

Viviana Martín, will join fellow ministers, Guillermo Zúńiga and Francisco Morales in resigning their cabinet posts today.

The resignations by the ministrea de Justicia (Martín), the ministro de Hacienda (Zúńiga) and the ministro de Trabajo (Morales) was confirmed by the ministro de la presidencia, Rodrigo Arias.

The resignations are not a wave of defections against the Arias administration, but rather in complaince with a elections tribunals that demands that any public official who aspires to become a legislator, they must resign their public post up to six months prior to the presidential elections.

All three, Martín, Zúńiga and Morales are expected to take an important role in the government of Laura Chinchilla, if she is elected president on February 7, 2010.

Ministro Arias did not announce replacements, saying only that his brother, the president, is evaluating options.
