Amnet and Racsa Divorce Results In Fight For Customers

Amnet and Racsa, who have worked together for the last decade, are in a fight to woo customers away from each other.

With the opening of the telecommunications sector, Amnet is one of the private companies authorized to offer internet and telephony services independent to the state internet service provider Radiográfica Costarricense S.A (Racsa) and the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE).

Until recently all internet services offered by Amnet were in a connection provided by Racsa, where customers paid two separate bills for the connections.

However, Amnet now offers services directly and is being aggressive in attracting new customers by offering current customers incentives to recommend their friends.

The two companies share 55.000 customers and are in a battle to each pull customers to their side in the "divorce".

The Amnet decision to go independent does not affect Racsa's relationship with Cabletica and Cablevisión.

In a full page ad in the Spanish language newspapers this past weekend, Racsa denies any fight with Amnet and their customers and that business is as usual. And for their part, Amnet has not solicited its current customers to make give up their account with Racsa. Not yet anyways.
