Dies From Police-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
Tegucigalpa - A Honduran
high school teacher who was shot in the head
last week in a protest against the June 28
coup died Saturday in a hospital.
This is the third death since the June 28
coup which ousted President Manuel Zelaya
and forced him into exile abroad.
Roger Abraham Vallejo, a teacher in the
capital city, was wounded last Thursday by a
policeman when thousands of people
demonstrated on a highway demanding the
reinstatement of Zelaya.
Other two victims were also Zelaya's
supporters, both killed in clashes between
protestors and police, one on July 5 and the
other on July 24. Aside from the three
deaths, 2,400 people so far have been
detained and more than 100 others wounded by

The head of Honduras' human rights
committee, Andres Pavon, Saturday denounced
the post-coup government led by Roberto
Micheletti for the violent crackdown on
Zelaya's supporters.
Pavon accused the government of contracting
a group of Israeli private security men to
advise the police on how to aggressively
control protestors.
"All these illegal and violent actions are
being documented and will be included in a
report that will be presented later to the
international community," he said.
"In addition to the three confirmed deaths,
we are investigating other suspicious
murders that could be caused by the army and
police," he added.
