Friday, May 1, is a legal holiday in Costa
Rica - Labour Day.
All government offices, state agencies,
banks and most businesses will be closed on
Friday. Workers who are expected to work on
Friday will receive double pay.
Holidays that fall within the week are
normally moved the following Monday. But not
May 1.
Although it is a holiday for entire
population, politicians on May 1 take part
in a series of events that include the
re-election of the president of the
Legislative Assembly and the receiving of a
report by the president Oscar Arias on the
state of the nation.
