Airport Workers Concerned Of Contacting
Swine Flu
Workers at the Juan Santamaría (San Jose)
international aiport have expressed concern
of coming into contact with persons infected
with the swine influenza that has so far
been confirmed in Mexico, the United States,
Canada and other countries.
Authorities of the Caja Costarricense del
Seguro Social (CCSS) have promised
additional security measures beginning today
(April 28). However, that doesn't remove the
fears of immigration and airline personnel
who come into direct contact with others on
a regular basis.
Concerned are also those who provide
transportation to tourists.
The ministerio de Salud (Health Ministry)
has promised the purchase of special
equipment to monitor temperature and
determine a possible infection, that should
be installed not later than tomorrow (April
29) to quell the concerns of the airport
workers.
"Given the alert in other countries, the
CCSS will be purchasing equipment that is
already in the county though the purchase is
yet to be completed", said Guiselle Guzmán,
head of Salud Colectiva at the CCSS.
Mexicana, the Mexican airline, announced
yesterday that it will suspend charges for
change of dates, due to the swine flu
outbreak.
