Apparently, Robyn Gibson has a sense of
humor. The day before the reading of the
Passion of (the) Christ on Easter weekend,
she filed for divorce from her uber Catholic
husband of 28 years, Mel Gibson .
The “Edge of Darkness” star, who was
canoodling in Costa Rica - and on the set of
his Boston movie - with a Russian singer
named Oksana, got hit with a divorce action
on Holy Thursday.
In her divorce filing, Mad Max’s wife, the
mother of his seven children, is seeking
spousal support - Mel’s estimated worth is
around $900 million - and joint custody of
their 10-year-old son, Thomas .
The Gibsons have six adult children: Hannah
- who is pregnant with the couple’s first
grandchild - Edward, Christian, William,
Louis and Milo .
“Irreconcilable differences” is the reason
for the split, according to court papers.
There is no pre-nup, and details of how the
couple’s assets will be divided were not
spelled out in the filing.
Robyn, 53, is seeking jewelry, earnings and
assets she accrued after the couple
separated, and a share of the money and
assets Gibson, also 53, has earned during
his nearly three decades as a Tinseltown
titan.
Did we mention California is a community
property state?
“Throughout our marriage and separation, we
have always strived to maintain the privacy
and integrity of our family and will
continue to do so,” the couple said
yesterday in a joint statement.
Mel quietly told parishioners about the
split at his church on Easter Sunday - a
week after attending Palm Sunday services
there with Robyn and the kids.
According to Mel’s response to Robyn’s
divorce petition, the couple separated Aug.
26, 2006. That would be one month and two
days after Gibson went on a drunken,
anti-Semitic tirade against a cop who pulled
him over for DUI after a night partying at a
Malibu bar.

“They’ll do this amicably,” a source told
People maggie. “There’s a lot of mutual
respect and they’ve worked hard on their
marriage and worked hard on their
separation. They’ll handle this in a
respectful way.”
Back in November, after photos of Mel and
the 28-year-old singer on the Hub set of
“Edge of Darkness” surfaced in the National
Enquirer, Mel’s people denied that the
Gibsons were headed for the Big D.
Rumors about Mel playing fast and loose with
the Sixth Commandment, according to the
actor’s spokesman, were “100 percent
untrue.”
Mel and a bikinied Oksana were photographed
kissing, hugging and frolicking in the waves
on March 4 at his $28 million, 300-acre
Costa Rican getaway.
At the time, a source told Usmagazine.com
that the entire Gibson clan was on holiday
in Costa Rica.
“Mel is on a family vacation with his entire
family and their friends,” a source told the
mag’s Web site. “His sons are there with
their girlfriends, his pregnant daughter
(also 28 years old, BTW) is there - the
whole family is there.”
