Tibás City Officials Investigated For Receiving Free Soccer Game Tickets
The mayor of Tibás, Jorge Salasa, and the president of the Consejo Municipal (municipal council), Estrella Pérez, will soon be facing the Procuraduría de la Ética Pública to explain the receiving of free tickets to the Selección (Costa Rican soccer team) againt El Salvador.

Both have been charged for receiving the gift from the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol for the game played on August 20 at the Ricardo Saprissa stadium, located in Tibás.

The charges come from several legislators of the artido Liberación Nacional (PLN) - Antonio Cubillo, Atala Martínez and Vilma Calvo; and Guillermo Jiménez and Elizabeth Solano, of the Movimiento Libertario (ML; and Johnny Cruz, of the Unión Nacional party.

For the legislators, both the mayor and council president could have broken the law of "enriquecimiento ilicito" (illegal enrichment) as the tickets to the sports events could be considered as bribes.

In addition, the legislators claim that the functionaries violated the right on honesty which is mandatory of all public officials.

Salas so far refused to make statements to the press, preferring to withold comments as the case is under investigation.

However, Pérez said that the accusations are an act of "vengeance" but nothing will come of it as she says she did not attend the game.

"This is nonsense on the part of the regidores (municipal council members) that should concern themselves more with the potholes, the garbage problem which will soon start to pile up again, for the elderly of the city and to approve scholarships for the young", said Pérez.
